Welcome to my fundraising page!

It seems fitting to kick off my fundraising on Halloween, the favorite holiday of my friend Elizabeth (Liz) Smith. I don't typically fundraise for my runs, but this is so important to me for a few reasons.

I am running my third marathon on March 4th, in New Orleans, Loisianna. I'm running with my friend, Stephanie, who is running her first full marathon. I remember how hard my first was, and how having a friend join me in the journey is the only way I made it. In honor of this amazing venture, I decided to run for a charity. I wanted it to be something relevant to those I care about.

Liz and I with the boys

Choroideremia is a rare disease that is carried by the women of a family but only affects the men. My friend Liz recently found out that her son, Dylan, has the recessive gene for Choroideremia. This will utlimately lead to the loss of vision and there is currently no cure. Liz had found out that she was a carrier, but there was a 50% chance Dylan would have it. Liz's father also has choroideremia and lost his vision starting in his 20's. In addition to Liz's 5 year old little boy, she has twin baby girls who can possibly be carriers of this gene. These are all reasons why I chose to run for the Smith Family and the Choroideremia Research Foundation. I want to raise awareness for this disease and help work towards a cure and treatment. And did I mentioned that New Orleans is Liz's favorite city? It seemed only fitting that I should run 26.2 there in her honor.

Help me support the Choroideremia Research Foundation by making a donation. The process is fast, easy, and secure. I truly appreciate any support you can provide. Each donation will help us to save sight and end blindness caused by Choroideremia (CHM).  Researchers are close to a curing CHM, but are still in need of critical research funds to finish their work and your donation will help us get there!

If you can't make a donation at this point, please help me reach my goal by sharing this page on Facebook and Twitter!

Or, even better, send an e-mail to friends you think might be interested in contributing and include a link to my page!

Thanks so much for your generosity!
