Welcome to my fundraising page! I am an avid runner who is keenly anticipating running the full Edmonton Marathon on August 24th, 2014. I am also a carrier of choroideremia (CHM), a rare form of inherited blindness, as are my two sisters, Maria and Emma. Combining these two realities in my life, I have recently joined Team CHM, a community of runners, marathoners, and triathletes impacted by choroideremia and dedicated to raising research funds. I’ve seen firsthand the profoundly challenging impact this degenerative, sight-robbing condition has had on my dad, Mark. I have been inspired by his courage, positive attitude, and commitment to creating a brighter future. In June 2014, I attended the Choroideremia Research Foundation conference in Denver and met many other inspiring CHMers. I accepted Danny and Sheryl Boren’s invitation to join Team CHM, combining my love of running with a deep desire to save sight and end blindness. I am confident that researchers are very close to unveiling treatments for a variety of blinding retinal diseases. However, it is also clear that more funding is required to guarantee a brighter future.

I am appealing to my friends and relatives on both sides of the border. Please support me by making a donation, either to the Choroideremia Research Foundation Inc. (through the links included on this webpage) or, if you live north of the border, to the Choroideremia Research Foundation Canada (by going to choroideremia.ca and clicking on the donate now button).

There’s a 50/50 chance that any children I may have will be impacted by CHM: every son would have the potential of being a sufferer like my dad and every daughter would have the potential of being a carrier like me. Please join in my efforts to create a better future not only for my family but for tens of thousands of people worldwide, impacted by this disease.
