Welcome to my fundraising page!  I will be running a half marathon (13.1 miles) on March 20, 2016 in Oakland, CA to spread awareness about Choroideremia (CHM), a rare inherited disorder that causes progressive vision loss, ultimately leading to complete blindness.

I have decided to raise money for CHM because my dad, Dave Price, is affected by the disease and I am a carrier of the genetic defect.  I want to contribute to the efforts to find a cure so that my future children will have more options than my dad did.

Some of my best memories are from my early childhood, known as the “Mr. Mom years.”  My dad lost his job in the early 90s and that left him to take care of my brother and me while my mom worked crazy hours.  I remember him picking me up from morning kindergarten in our massive 1986 Pontiac station wagon with the fake wood grain panels on the sides.  (Her name was Nelliebelle – RIP.)  He would always show up with a wheat bagel from the grocery store and, once I hopped in the front seat, he would tear it in half and share it with me.  Despite my numerous complaints about his cost-cutting grocery shopping measures and “interesting” dinner creations, I think back to those years and feel lucky to have spent them with my dad.  I was proud to be the only kid on grade school field trips to the Shedd Aquarium with a dad chaperone.  Dave Price reinvented what it was to be a “classroom mom.”

And now, looking back, I feel so grateful that my dad had his vision during those years.  So many CHM-ers gradually lose their peripheral and central vision early in their late teens, 20s, and 30s.  My dad drove up until his late 40s and even got to enjoy several years of being the proud owner of a 1966 Pontiac GTO in nightwatch blue..

We are close to finding a cure, so please consider donating to help save sight.  My dad and I are so grateful for your help!
